BASICS
Name: Freya Agard
Nickname: n/a
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Demisexual
Birthday: October 1
CLASSIFICATIONS
Race: Valkyrie
Powers: Can tell when someone is going to die, has an affinity for ravens, swans, and horses. Can summon a holy spear, but blood must be shed first (hers or someone else, it doesn’t matter). Can see ghosts, and can send them to the afterlife if she judges them worthy. Also has mild control over storms, especially lightning. It should be noted that she has limited control over all these powers.
PHYSICAL
Height/Weight: 5’3”, 135 lbs
Appearance:
Picture.
Freya is short and stocky, with a light tan and brown eyes and dark hair. She wears her hair down most of the time, but ties it up in a ponytail or messy bun when she’s working or focused. Her bangs are cut straight across her forehead, adding a fringe to her default scowling expression. Freya sticks to dark clothing in desaturated and muted tones, half out of preference and half because bright colors tend to wash her out.
Markings?: n/a
Hindrances: Is nearsighted. Wears contacts usually, but can also be seen sporting horned-rimmed black glasses, although it’s rare.
MENTAL
Personality: Freya is cranky and gloomy, hard to befriend and only warm to those she deems worthy of her time and respect. This makes her difficult to work with. Her largest strength is her intelligence. Freya is sharp and quick, and although bragging isn’t in her nature, her utter confidence and tendency to state what she thinks is the obvious can definitely be taken as such. She has no issues telling people the harsh truth, always delivered in monotone with a blank expression.
Although it appears she hates everyone, it’s more accurate to say she is selective about the people she opens up to. Freya can be emotional, although the spectrum seems to root around the “angry, annoyed, irritated” area. This isn’t to say that she isn’t happy when she succeeds, but her expression of happiness is subtle.
Freya doesn’t see the point in being sweet, doesn’t care for false praise. If she sees a good job being done, she’ll say it. She doesn’t provide empty compliments and although she has a wonderful poker face and can lie well, she doesn’t lie often.
Health Issues?: Myopic; wears glasses and contacts.
BACKSTORY
Parents: Erik Agard, Róta (whereabouts unknown)
Siblings: n/a
Other Relations: Ingrid Agard (paternal grandmother)
History:
Róta, one of the Norns in Norse mythology said to govern storms, once saw a building struck by lightning and catch on fire while on assignment in Oslo. She witnessed a man run in to save people and was impressed with his courage and selflessness. She approached him, curious, and she was just as charmed by his kind soul and handsome face. Erik was equally captivated by Róta, and although they never married, they spent many happy years together.
However, several days after Róta gave birth to Freya, she disappeared without any warning or note. She sometimes left, but this was the first time her absence was so sudden and unannounced. Erik became worried, and when Róta did not return, he returned back to his hometown of Deatnu in the north, wanting to raise his daughter in the Sápmi reigon so she could have a connection to her Sami heritage. He moved in with his aging mother, who was delighted to meet her granddaughter, and so Freya grew up in the cold tundra of north Scandinavia, assisting her father on fishing boats and spending time with her grandmother.
Her valkyrie powers remained largely dormant, although every so often there would be sparks of something more - the way she would feel during thunderstorms, the raven she adopted as a pet that became her constant companion through adulthood, the tendency she had to talk with people who nobody else could see.
Erik had held out hopes that his daughter would take after the human side of the family and therefore live a normal life, but as she grew older, it became clear this was not a possibility. Her ability to see and hear the dead made her ostracized, and she became withdrawn. Erik and Ingrid didn’t know what to do.
Finix contacted the family after Freya graduated from high school. Her powers were staring to become fully realized to the point where the academy had become aware of them. Encouraged to attend by her family so that she could learn of her powers, she was sent off with many kisses, hugs, and a brand new set of traditional clothing her grandmother had saved from her own childhood, so Freya could remember her home.
