BASICS
Name:
Cedric Cantrell
Nickname:
Anything one wants to call him, really. (He’ll respond to “bastard” tfw)
Age:
17
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Demiromantic / Bisexual
Birthday:
June 12
CLASSIFICATIONS
Race:
Shapeshifter (Diluted blood)
Powers:
Emotion Manipulation—the ability to manipulate the inner feelings of those in a small radius around him. By pulling at different ‘strings’ different effects can be acquired, such as pulling at guilt to overwhelm the victim with the feeling to potentially reveal the truth. Can also create feelings of ease to quell someone in panic, or frenzy someone usually docile. It takes a strain on his mentality and leaves him with a migraine when used full power for an extended amount of time. Good for interrogations or manipulation.
Minor Transformations—unlike his full-blooded brother, Cedric cannot change his entire shape and appearance. He cannot change his build or structure, but he can change things like his hair (color, style, texture), eye color, and skin color. It makes for good disguises.
PHYSICAL
Height/Weight:
5’9/173 cm ; 146 lbs/66 kg
Appearance:
{ rough sketch | faceclaim }
A youth of an average, medium build. Being not exactly muscular, his stature does resemble someone who excels in agility and defense. He sports a head of wavy, sandy brunet hair, stylized lazily to resemble something like stylish bedhead. He maintains a lightly tanned complexion paired with his default confident and smiling expression. At least, this is how he usually presents himself. These minor details can be changed at will. Cedric tends to wear clothes of lighter colors, ensemble resembling something considered fashionable—a choice he makes consciously.
Markings?:
A scar running from his shoulder to just above the elbow. It’s thin and faded, and otherwise all healed up. He got it a few years back in a skirmish with his brother; it’s alright, though, he gave him one on his cheek.
Hindrances:
His build isn’t meant for fighting or close combat. Will be addressed in the mental section.
MENTAL
Personality:
To each and every person, the hybrid boy carries a pleasantly upbeat personality almost constantly. He’s flirty and teasing to no end—almost annoyingly so. His humor bases around the joke of an unfailing confidence the charming him possesses limitlessly. Despite the hostility posed toward him because of his abilities, Cedric truly is a happy, confident person.
Since he is not a full-blooded shapeshifter like his half-brother, Cedric’s powers are limited and much weaker than an all-out transformation. In acting, though, trumping appearances comes the emotions projected among all, and that’s just what he can do. Emotion manipulation is his game, and being some of the few who learned to harness the ability in its entirety (dedication and practice for years on end) he knows quite a few tricks. In fact, with the influencing of certain emotions, he can often detect falsehood in outward appearances making him an expert on the mendacious qualities of humanity as a whole.
While he may be wildly confident and a hopeless “flirt,” years of discovering the flaws in mankind’s existence—the awful nature of humans as a whole, tendencies to lie, society’s tweaking of perfection, and even he, himself—Cedric has grown incredibly bitter about society and the world. Which isn’t to get confused with hating himself (he has no qualms with himself, he’s simply an imperfection like everyone else. Only he’s overly aware of it.) Because of this, Cedric has adopted a sense of existential nihilism, otherwise skeptical of life and the meaning of existence. No one life can possibly matter in a world so big and so shitty! So, y’know, you might as well enjoy what time you’ve got left; you’re gonna die anyway.
While it may seem this kind of personality is what lays behind a mask of those outwardly upbeat and cheerful intentions, that isn’t entirely the case. This side of him actually very easily comes out, especially when prodded. Over all, true emotions and true relationships are not something that come easily to him, even with his extroverted tendencies. But despite this, he really is quite caring around those he views as deserving or the rare specimen called a true friend. Although his type of emotion is often overcome by selfishness, especially in the case of his brother.
Because of his average stature and less than impressive strength, Cedric is not a fighter. Instead, due to his ability, he seems to excel mostly on defensive and a brutal form of psychological warfare. Physical transformation paired with emotion manipulation can cause some brutish impacts on another’s sanity, right?—Especially when he looks like an average high school kid.
Mind games are his forte.
Health Issues?:
Chronic migraines, for one. Depending to the extent he uses up his powers, these migraines could leave him feeling nauseous for a moment.
BACKSTORY
Parents:
Keith Cantrell (deceased), his shapeshifter father, fell in love with with Anna, his human mother. While Keith had already had a child with a full blooded shapeshifter, he fell for Cedric’s mother and produced a half blood. Keith was later killed for his abilities, leaving Anna a single mother with two supernatural children, though she loved them no less.
Siblings:
Logan Cantrell, a full-blooded shapeshifter and his half-brother. They fight a lot, but Cedric cares deeply for him. While Cedric is taking a studious route in life, Logan seems to be caught up in making a name for himself through gangs and delinquents. Logan being in his life is the only reason Cedric was raised to be aware of his powers and fully harnessed them as he grew up.
Other Relations:
Ezekiel Roth, a full-blooded dream-eater with a particular dislike for humans. Feeds off of human’s dreams in a symbiotic relationship, but looks down on them. Actually kind-hearted despite his dislike. Cedric gives him a hard time.
Lily Clarke, a paranormal investigator in training doubling as a medium for the supernatural. Logan’s crush, though Cedric disapproves in fear of Logan getting hurt in some way. Humans are hard to be trusted, after all.
History:
The son of a shapeshifter and human, born with weak transformation abilities and a knack for emotion transforming. When he was three, his father was killed for his powers—an event he hardly remembers nor cares about, though it seems to tear his half-brother up whenever the subject is mentioned.
Cedric always has had a penchant for excellence. From his young years on, he dedicated himself with the help of his older half-brother to the mastery of his abilities, despite their dangers—such mental abilities tend to take a toll on one’s mind if not harnessed properly. Thanks to these abilities, Cedric was able to form himself into what many would consider the ideal person, acting upon people’s emotions and portraying himself how to be most reliable; a game of make believe and pretending to be someone you’re not. Because of this, he grew up with no real personality, but slowly developed into a charismatic soul with a firm grip on humanity’s morals and emotions. This, of course, will always turn out to be a dangerous concoction.
When people began to catch wind of his unorthodox and bitter view of the world, paired with his too-good understanding of emotion and his leadership qualities, suspicion arose. Cedric was able to quell these suspicions temporarily, however, with a tranquilizing emotion until he could set out for Finix Academy. The whole ordeal left him with a migraine that lasted for days.
