BASICS
Name: Merlie Finn
Nickname: a few people have called him "Crow" in the past, but it was more of a derogatory term. He wouldn't mind if someone called him that, if they used it nicely.
Age: 17
Gender: male
Sexuality: panromantic
Birthday: October 13
CLASSIFICATIONS
Race: Half-daemon crow. He has the ability to see the exact day and time that a person will die. When he touches someone, he can see their darkest thoughts, memories, and secrets. He can drain someone's life force by touching them, but it is a slow process and leaves him completely vulnerable. He's an observer more than fighter mostly because he's a giant clutz and would get himself killed.
PHYSICAL
Height/Weight: He is 5'1, and weighs around 103 ibs.
Appearance: Merlie has paper white hair. It's typically straight, but he doesn't know the meaning of the word "brush," so sometimes it's slightly messy. His bangs are semi long and partially dip over one eye in a halfhearted attempt to brush them to the side. His eyes are pinkish red, and his skin is just as white as his hair. On either side of his head, what seem to be his rates are coal black crow feathers. They look like barrets a girl would put in her hair, as he's been traded about often.
Merlie likes to sick to oversized sweaters and long sleeved shirts. They are usually black, and so are his skinny jeans. He wears one knee high boots that have multiple buckles on them and take an unnecessary amount of time to put on.
On his back are two black wings (most likely crow wings), that seem a bit to big for his body. One wing is bandaged up and he won't let anyone look at it. He also refuses to say how it was injured. This prevents him from flying.
Markings?: Underneath his right eye is a barcode. His Master tattooed it there so that it was obvious that Merlie was someone's property.
Hindrances: He has a slight limp in his leg. One of his wings is bandaged for reasons he won't say, and it prevents him from flying.
Face claim: Sakamaki Subaru, Diabolik Lovers
MENTAL
Personality: Merlie is quiet, but he will eagerly engage in conversation if someone approaches him first. Although he is constantly by himself, he wishes for nothing more than to have a friend. He gets nervous easily and often slips into a stutter. The few people who have gotten to know him have described him as having a "cute" personality, which only results in him blushing and hiding his face in his hands.
Merlie enjoys baking. He can make pretty much everything, since his family owned a bakery. Since he can only make sweets, that is what his first is mainly made up of. However, his abilities drain him and he has a very high metabolism and is constantly stuffing his face.
Merlie also loves to read. The library is his second favorite place to be, the first being the kitchen. Most of the books he reads pertain to botany and he is quite knowledgeable about any kind of plant. Crows constantly flock to him, and as such, he is constantly seen running from them.
He is someone who guards himself carefully, but will open up when someone shows him kindness and once that happens, he will be their friend until his last breath.
Because Merlie can see into a person's soul, he can manipulate them through their secrets and fears, but here only ever doors this when he feels threatened. It's times such as this when the "wild animal" inside of him comes out. He doesn't fight with his fists, but with his words and he can be quite vicious.
Health Issues?: Merlie suffers from severe anxiety.
BACKSTORY
Parents: Cassady Finn (mother, daemon); Leon Finn (father, human)
Siblings: Nia Finn (younger sister, human); Elliott Finn (twin brother, deceased)
Other Relations: Festus (undertaker/kidnapper/master)
History: When Merlie was 7 years old, his powers began to awaken. It first happened on a summer night, when he was up late, reading stories with his twin. They were pressed shoulder to shoulder under the covers of their bed, a flashlight between them. Merlie's fingers skimmed over his brother's hand and he saw himself holding a body knife, the blade embedded into Elliot's chest. Merlie panicked and shot away, knocking over the night stand and falling to there for, which drew the attention of their parents.
Cassady realized that Merlie had inherited her powers. She sent himt to a small cottage in an isolated forest, far from any on . The cottage was protected by magic. Cassady wanted to keep Merlie isolated until she could think of a way to handle his developing powers. Elliott, however, refused to be separated from his brother and ran away one night. He snuck into the cottage. Merlie heard noises and crept into the kitchen, taking a knife for protection—he believed it was a wild animal that had broken in. When Elliott fell from the window he was climbing through, Merlie panicked and struck with the knife before he realized who it was.
After Elliott died, Merlie refused to speak and locked himself in the cabin with only books to keep him company. His mother came by and spoke to him through the door, explaining Merlie's heritage. Cassady was a spirit creature known as a daemon. Daemons, more commonly know and widely misinterpreted as demons, are gentle spirits of Flora and Fauna. They had the ability to see into the spirit world, hence the reason why Merlie had seen Elliot's death. He had touched Elliot's soul and seen when it would perish.
Merlie, left alone in the cottage, eventually drew the attention of a true evil demon, who easily broke pay the magical barrier, kidnapped Merlie, and took him to the big city. One there, the demon plunged a knife into Merlie's chest and presented him with a crow. He told Merlie that in order to save his life, Merlie would have to consume the crow's. Scared of dying, Merlie touched the crow's wings and drained the crow's life force completely. When he did this, by taking that crow's soul, Merlie began to undergo a transformation that gave him many of the crow's features, such as its wings and feathers. This happened because he took the entire soul into his body and it literally became a part of him, and that was shown physically. His eyes also opened to the spirit world completely and he could now see into people's souls without having to touch them.
The demon, Festus, played the role of a human undertaker. He would send Merlie to observe the city's people and use his eyes to pick or which ones would die. Merlie would then tell Festus, who would collect those poor people souls for his collection (while holding very touching funeral services for the families left behind). Merlie hated his time as Festus's apprentice, and wished for anything to set him free. He desperately wanted to see his family again, who had continuously visited him weekly. He missed the days when his mother would twin him in the at of magic (which he completely failed at. He did not inherit his mother's infinity toward magic, even though that is a common daemon trait).
Eventually, Merlie the letter from Finix and used it to escape the demon.
